In a significant political development, Brijendra Singh, the former BJP Member of Parliament from Haryana's Hisar, has parted ways with the saffron party citing "political and ideological differences" and has officially joined the Congress. Singh made this announcement just hours after tendering his resignation from the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Singh's decision to join the Congress was motivated by his diverging ideologies on various issues, including those concerning farmers, Agniveers, and wrestlers, among others. Expressing his reasons for the switch, Singh emphasized that his core beliefs did not align with the BJP's stance on several crucial matters.

"I quit the BJP and joined the Congress because of political and ideological differences. From farmers' issues to Agniveers to the wrestler's protests - I differed on many things. I am very happy to join the Congress family," stated Singh upon his induction into the grand old party.

Singh also highlighted the BJP's alliance with Dushyant Chautala's Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) in Haryana as a contributing factor to his resignation from the ruling party. He expressed concerns over the alliance, citing it as one of the reasons behind his decision to part ways with the BJP.

Chautala, in response to Singh's move to the Congress, remarked, "For one year he was not able to take any decision and finally, he took it. This is his thinking. May God bless him."

Singh's departure from the BJP has sparked discussions about the seat-sharing arrangement between the BJP and JJP for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The JJP, which won 10 seats in the 2019 Haryana assembly polls, had entered into a post-poll alliance with the BJP.

Formerly an IAS officer, Singh resigned from the BJP citing "compelling political reasons" and expressed gratitude to the party leadership for the opportunity to serve as the Member of Parliament for Hisar. He also announced his resignation from the Lok Sabha membership.

Formally joining the Congress at party President Mallikarjun Kharge's residence in New Delhi, Singh expressed his gratitude to the people of Hisar for their support during his tenure as their MP. He affirmed his commitment to public service, emphasizing his continued dedication to addressing the needs and concerns of the constituents.

As a Member of Parliament from Hisar, Brijendra Singh was actively involved in several parliamentary panels and committees, contributing to the legislative process.

Singh, the son of former union minister and BJP leader Birender Singh, and the great-grandson of Jat icon Chhotu Ram, brings with him a wealth of political experience and legacy to his new party, the Congress.

His decision to join the Congress comes amidst the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, where the party, in alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party, will contest under the INDIA bloc in Haryana, with AAP contesting Kurukshetra and Congress in the remaining nine seats as per their agreement.
